ArtHouse is thrilled to have had the opportunity to refresh the Indian School Plaza store, the firm’s seventh in an ongoing collaboration with Whole Foods. Starting with copywriting that invokes local culture with clever nods to the state motto, southwestern culture and diverse heritage, ArtHouse was able to tie the design to the neighborhood in a friendly, light-hearted way. By blending southwestern patterns, nature-inspired fractals and a palette driven by New Mexico sunsets, ArtHouse was able to give this store a genuine and contemporary flair. The store is refreshed, enlivened and still very much in touch with its ABQ roots. ArtHouse also chose materials that are repurposed and regionally appropriate, adding to the authenticity of the decor while building interest and dimension into the store experience.

ArtHouse was also able to make use of innovative design techniques, such as using upcycled magazines as a wallcovering or wrapping the décor under soffits so that the geometric shapes align when seen from far away, creating interest from every angle. With a thoughtful color palette, vibrant graphics and upbeat copy, this store truly embodies the Land of Enchantment and will continue to be a welcoming community staple in the future.

ArtHouse won a 2017 GDUSA American Package Design Award of Recognition for its work on this project.
