Town of Frederick, CO

The Town of Frederick, Colorado is a small historic community on the Front Range between Denver and Fort Collins that has incredible views of the Rocky Mountains from its vantage point on the high plains. The town approached ArtHouse Design to help establish a better sense of place for a community that is surrounded by other small towns and that tends to get swallowed by the immense skies and landscapes of the area.

ArtHouse initially designed a monumental pylon sign for a new park that serves as a gateway upon entry to the town. The ArtHouse team made an effort to build on the existing municipal brand by creating a friendly, welcoming identity through the use of type and honest materials that is activated at night with bright, colorful illumination. The pylon was so successful, that the town asked ArtHouse to further develop a comprehensive family of signage and wayfinding elements that give the historic downtown an inviting feel, while adding to the ease of navigation and identification of area landmarks. With park signage, district seals, wayfinding and a banner program, the town was able to create a distinct, friendly sense of place that sets it apart from its neighbors.
