Recently, ArtHouse has had the pleasure of expanding beyond our home state to New Mexico, with the newly redesigned Cerrillos Road location in the heart of Santa Fe. This store was an especially exciting opportunity due to the rich cultural and artistic heritage for which Santa Fe is known. ArtHouse wanted to avoid the cliché symbols and colors frequently associated with New Mexico and the Southwest and instead developed a design direction for the store that is both welcoming and sophisticated. With a palette of colors that are found in the local environment, patterns that pay homage to the local Spanish and Native American cultural tradition and typography that embodies the spiritual ambiance of the city, this store is truly unique.
With a palette of colors that are found in the local environment, patterns that pay homage to the local Spanish and Native American cultural tradition and typography that embodies the spiritual ambiance of the city, this store is truly unique. ArtHouse also sought to capture the ethos of Santa Fe through copywriting that underscores Whole Foods’ focus on quality, sustainability and local communities. With nods to the state and city’s nicknames, slogans and values, ArtHouse was able to connect this store directly to the community it serves.
Another key feature of the materials used for the décor is that they are all intended to be reminiscent of local products. From the exposed raw pine that accents the soffits with a natural touch, to the custom, locally-sourced hammered tin register lights and the industrial inspired hardware of the chalkboards, the attention to detail in this store invokes the thoughtful artistry of Santa Fe.
ArtHouse Design won a 2016 GDUSA American Graphic Design Awards, Award of Recognition for its work on this project.
