Once again ArtHouse had the opportunity to send two designers, Abigail and Daisy, to the International Sign Association Expo held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The two emerging designers were accepted as part of the Experiential Design Program (XDP), a boutique program that offers a designer’s perspective of the large EGD trade show experience. As was expected the conference was a huge hit, with over 20,000 attendees.
Designers Abigail and Daisy were provided an opportunity to experience the breadth of inspirational, experiential, and practical education throughout the 3-day conference. The XDP and National Sign Research Education Conference (NSREC) partnered their efforts and provided lectures by Cliff Selbert of Selbert Perkins Design, Jennifer Bressler of Hunt Design, and Pete Scantland of Orange Barrel Media. The XDP program also provided guided tours of the Trade Show by signage and fabrication experts, which aided in the explanation of new materials and technologies being used today.
Abigail and Daisy, along with the other XDP delegates also experienced an exclusive tour of the Amway Center’s signage and wayfinding system — learning the ins-and-outs of the environmental graphic design processes for this massive sports and entertainment stadium. The Expo provided countless opportunities for networking, exposure to new materials, and even new friendships within the EGD and signage communities. From ten-foot tall typographic elements, to new lighting technologies and human-scaled 3D printing, Abigail and Daisy’s experience at the 2018 ISA Sign Expo provided valuable tools that will enable their design processes to evolve within the ArtHouse team and the EGD field itself.
