2019 SEGD Conference, Y’all!

This year's annual Society for Experiential Graphic Design conference took place in Austin, Texas and ArtHouse Design's Associate Design Director and SEGD Denver Chapter Chair Zach Kotel had the opportunity to attend.

As always, the conference was a huge source of inspiration and felt especially relevant as it focused on the recently and quickly growing city of Austin, which has encountered some of the same growing pains as Denver. Learning about what 'keeps Austin weird' from local designers, artists and fabricators was supported by tours through the East Side Arts District, networking events and inspiring speakers and panels.

As a veteran chapter chair, Zach was asked to lead several discussions and present about sponsorships and branding at the annual Chapter Chair Summit, a meeting of all of the national and international SEGD chapter chairs. It was special as always to reconnect with other chapter chairs and share tips and stories about events and programming.

A definite highlight of this year's conference was getting to see famed graphic design icon Paula Scher of Pentagram give the key note speech. Paula was funny, charming, inspiring and of course the work she shared was phenomenal. Being able to be in the presence of such design heroes, while also learning about the cutting edge of experiential graphic design is one of the most rewarding parts of participating in SEGD both locally and nationally.
