When the University approached ArtHouse Design to revamp the dining hall, ArtHouse took the story as a tongue-in-cheek inspiration for the grill’s new environmental graphic design. ArtHouse designed graphics, signage and wayfinding for both the Alferd Packer Restaurant and Grill and the Baby Doe’s Café and Bakery (also named for a storied Coloradan), as well as the logos, menus and identities for each. Using historic photos of Victorian-era Colorado and various found objects, ArtHouse developed a series of environmental graphics that evoke the colorful past of the Rocky Mountains, as well as poke fun at the fact that one of the main student dining halls is named after someone who ate other people.

ArtHouse Design won a UCDA Design Competition Award of Excellence for their work on the Alferd Packer Restaurant and Grill in 2011.
